Tuesday Class

Hey guys,

Have roughs of your campaigns ready to go in class for Tuesday. If you didn't finish all your sketches in class of the grids make sure that you get those sketchbooks caught up. Also don't forget to make a grid for all of your designs. I think once you get using these this is going to be valuable quick tool for laying out information like this. Don't forget to keep trying to get ahold of your photographers and candidates. Be a pest if you need to be. If you find out that your candidate has dropped out please let me know and switch your gears to a Voting Awareness campaign for SGA.

ALSO DON'T FORGET - YOUR PHOTOS AND DIGITAL FILES OF YOUR FILM FESTIVAL WORK FOR TUESDAY!! MUST BE SAVED ON A DISK.

I'm still waiting to hear from Jason on specific dates for the election and requirements. I'll post on here as soon as I hear something.

Ms. Eckley

Great job today guys! You really impressed Cam and myself with your inventiveness and dedication to these projects. Keep up the great work! Don't forget to take pictures and have you digital files ready to go in class on Thursday.

DON'T FORGET!!

Hey guys,

Don't forget to electronically submit your critiques by class tomorrow. They need to be 500 words with the specifics detailed over class. If you did not get the details or have any further questions be sure to e-mail me and or ask each other. A couple ears and eyes in this case are much better than one. If your director would like to come and participate in on critique be sure that they are in class at 8:30 am. Mr. Tracy will be coming over at that time.

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

ASSIGNMENT 14 - Thursday, April 9th

Please have your 5+ sketchbook pages ready to be checked over in class on Thursday as well as a printed copy (b&w) of your poster (good to have alternate versions for me to look at if something isn't looking just right). If you are steaming along with your environmental piece be ready to show that as well / this could be sketched out picture or class. We will be having another work day and individual critiques.

Extra Credit

Don't forget to submit a poster for extra credit. It's an easy 5 pts towards. Your grade. I'm going to give all the designs over to Jason Castles and he's going to decide which ones he wants, but it's an easy 5 pts to move a bad grade to good one on your next assignment. ASSIGNMENT 13 - Tues. April 7

DUE MONDAY:
Your in-class poster assignment glued printed off and glued into your sketchbook. At least 5 pages of preliminary sketching work in your sketchbooks for your environmental point of display / advertisement and movie poster. This needs to be a combo of mind maps (aka associations) and sketches. You also need to have your poster in draft form on the computer. Make sure that you have contacted your director of your film and that you get the information that you need for your project. Don't forget about some easy extra credit is also due. See specifications from last post concerning that project.

DUE THURSDAY (April 9th):
Under glass (poster) ready to critique (in full critique mode:) and a mock up / miniature of your environmental display.

MOVIE POSTER Requirements
Poster needs to be 11x17 - in color if design calls for it.
The title of the poster needs to be addressed in some sort of logotype treatment or logo itself.
The poster must also have some sort of tagline addressing or enticing the viewer to watch the movie. The addition of awards and honors might also be included on the poster - must be true however (no fake ones...aka Toronto film festival, etc)
The poster must also include information concerning: the director, writer, producer, music, main stars of cast, production company logo and or studio.

Environmental Pt of Display
If you choose to go this route. It needs to be to scale. Can be a dimensional cardboard cut out that fits within the theme of your movie and or poster and or it can be a 2-D cutout that stands up. Use foam board and mount your design to the piece with spray fixative. Be very careful of craftsmanship. Ragged cuts and loose points will not be acceptable and will be subtracted from your overall grade of the piece.

Newspaper / Magazine Ad
You will need both a newspaper advertisement at 1/4 of a page in black and white and a full page magazine ad in color. This should go with the theme of your poster and should not be exactly the same as your poster. It should be the development of a campaign that reinforces your brand and is specifically designed to the specifications. If you choose this option be sure to include your critique what the publication is that you intend these to be placed and why your design reflects the ideals of that target market. All of these need to be framed and mounted for presentation as well in a separate clip frame from the poster.

Don't forget to write your summary as well. There will be specifics concerning the style of the summary given in class on Tuesday.
