Tuesday Class

Check your Union mail for your candidate assignments on Friday. You will need to get in touch with them over the weekend in order to develop all the needed items. Please be aware of the candidates time and that there will be multiple people making contact...see if you can make contact in a group rather than a bunch of phone calls.

ALSO SIDE NOTE FROM THE ART DEPARTMENT
Okay, guys, the scholarship application deadline is 12 noon next Tuesday, April 3. Again, there are some hard copies of the application in my door box. I've also attached the form to this email. You may submit images on a CD or on a jump drive. Just be sure the jump drive is labeled so I can send it back in campus mail to you. Also, if you do put images on the jump drive, make sure the scholarship stuff is the only stuff on there. NO late applications will be accepted. / THIS IS FOR ART MAJORS / MINORS

Mr. Benson has a show up right now at Freed-Hardeman University. His lecture will be at 4:00 p.m. and the reception at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is invited. Film Fest tonight and Thursday class

Hi guys,

Don't forget to go to the film fest tonight! Awards ceremony at 10 pm. No homework tonight! Relish in the freedom! Because things are fast and furious from here on out. See you Thursday!

Critique on Monday, March 26th

UP BY MONDAY!
You will be required to have your standup and poster in the hallway by 8 am on Monday, March 26th. If you are doing guerilla please have it out there by Monday afternoon at the latest. I will be walking the halls and doing checks...this is part of your critique grade.

CRITIQUE ON TUESDAY
Stand up must be somewhere in the PAC main hallway and not blocking doorways / traffic paths or side halls.
Guerilla must be placed / we might have time to see some but not all. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS...CHECK BELOW
Poster must be 11x17 (vertical or horizontal format) / full bleed / hung in the hallway located outside of the library / UNDER GLASS
We will meet here for critique at the start of class instead of in the DMS lab.
You may invite your director to come to critique to comment and respond to your work. Also you don't need to dress for this critique since we will be hiking all over campus if we have time.

NEWS ALERT!!! I hear that the frames are not in the hallway and the holes of the nails have been patched over break. I will be out there at 7 am to put the new nails up and hunt around for your frames. Not excited that this has happened. Sorry for the delay we will get it all sorted out in the morning. Will post on here as soon as I have more information. You must have the rest of your items placed (stand up and guerillas by 8 am) Posters will probably be slightly delayed and that is okay. Look forward to seeing all these guys.

Thursday, March 15th

Hey guys,

For Thursday, you need to have one page of thumbnails for your guerilla marketing item / one page for your stand up. Again these can be similar ideas...guerilla goes out into the environment while your standup goes in the hallway. You need to have two poster roughs in your folder for Thursday. Make changes suggested to your folder and make sure that it is caught up for Thursday. Remember this is due in the hallway on Monday morning right after spring break so be sure to budget your time wisely.

Next AIGA meeting will be Tuesday, March 27th at 5 pm. We will be planning for field trips and giving out jobs / internship info. The film festival awards show on Tuesday, March 27th is at 7 pm - 10:15 pm. Check out the website at http://www.uu.edu/events/filmfestival/.

Movie Project for Tuesday

Okay - so I didn't get to talk this out before class ended and everyone took off. Sorry about that...but we have to get started on the next project...yes I know you just finished the last one. I've sent you your assignments to your directors. Over the weekend you need to do research on the film and film topic. You need to have a conversation about the film with the director. Coordinate with your competition and have one meeting if you can so that you respect your director's time. You need to have a design brief / 1 page direction of where you are going to go with the film. Do NOT USE I IN THE LANGUAGE. Have this set up like your design summaries of the past. 3 inch margin on the top / Name / Project Name / Paragraph set in gill sans (don't bother with the light) 11pt font. You will have to get started on thumbnailing for your poster as well / please have three pages (27 thumbs) completed of this by Tuesday. This project comes right after spring break remember (client's deadline not mine) so we will have to start seeing roughs by Thursday next week.

FOR THIS PROJECT / THE FINAL WILL BE
1. 11x17 poster / full bleed and under glass
2. Guerilla marketing piece / in the environment announcing the launch of the movie
3. Hallway Standup

On Tuesday we will be talking about Marketing pieces and standups as well as going over your ideas and thumbs.
FOR TUESDAY YOU MUST HAVE
1. New job folder
2. Design brief / Visual brief (this needs to be full page of images not just a few)
3. 5 pages of research on the film (this can be on the topic / the script / the idea)
4. 3 pages of thumbnails (only need to be for your 11x17 poster)
5. Ofcourse you need to make contact with your director!!

Sorry guys, I know this fast and furious but you will really love the results of this project in your portfolio. This project always makes out students standout.

NEWS ALERT!!!

NEWS ALERT!!!
Pizza party at my house has now switched to Mr. Benson's house at 79 Countrywood Drive in Jackson. We were having two parties on the same night so we have opted to create a "Peace Party." Critique on Thursday

Hi guys,

It's here - final critique. Thursday! You can celebrate with pizza with AIGA afterwards but for now...this needs to be your focus. I know I just distracted you with the word pizza.

Okay, here is the order and specifics for Thursday. Extra credit if you can get a response from your client over the project or have them come to critique. Three bonus points can move you up from an B to an A.

You need to have three working copies of all your elements (envelope / letterhead / business card). Two copies with front and back showing of each item will go in your frame. You need to be dressed for critique on this one. Also be prepared to talk about design decisions. You will not have to write a summary for this since you've done all that research on your business beforehand. You need to be able to discuss the functionality of the items for the business and be able to discuss the choices that you made that help reinforce and further the brand.

JOB FOLDER
LEFT HAND SIDE
9 pages of thumbnails / must have front and backs addresses for each of the item. This must be numbered at the bottom of the page.
2 sets of roughs / If you have loose items like small business cards please put them in a plastic baggie and clip into folder. Do not have them loose...I will take off points if this is not taken care of.

RIGHT HAND SIDE
letterhead / make sure that if it is supposed to be full bleed that you cut off the white edge
envelope / working and well crafted
business card / well crafted and on card stock (80 lb stock minimum) / this too needs to be in a baggie

Tuesday, March 6th

For Tuesday, you must have two different versions of all your items. These must be working printed comps (they don't have to be in color if you don't want...but must be printed both sides / folded if need to be folded or if you have any moving parts this is the time to test them out). These need to be ready to go and in your job folder. Don't forget you have been forewarned there will be quick review quiz on Tuesday as well. The bulk of Tuesday will be a work day. Be ready for critique on Thursday.

EDIT TO THIS...GOING TO BE THURSDAY NIGHT. Don't forget - pizza party on THURSDAY at six. This is Mom and Pop's Pizza - best in town:) Bring a dessert or drink. Also bring a game or two if you want something specifics.
