Please bring your completed resume to class (please design in InDesign have printed out for Friday). Your logo needs to be designed and applied to resume. Also please have a draft of your written cover letter. Address to somewhere interested in interning for the summer. Have this printed out as well. See you then!

Wednesday

Hi guys,

Those of you that were absent will have an in class assignment to make up that I will tell you about for Wednesday.

We are switching gears to start thinking about your own branding. Please do two visual briefs. One page for things that inspire you for a logo and the other page for a branding stationary package inspiration. Have 25 thumbnails done for Wednesday and a resume that you currently have. If you don't have one...put some information down on word about yourself. Have this printed off for your job folder on Wednesday.

Don't forget about AIGA tonight at 5:30 in the DMS lab.

Hi guys,

Good job on your logos. Now it is time to select your favorite and start to move it forward into a branding package. Over the weekend I would like for you to start a visual brief (two pages) of neat business card / stationary / envelope packages that you like and think might fit the needs of your business. Those you going to DISH this weekend have fun and those of you at SEJC get some rest:) See you on Monday!

Friday, Critique Day

Hi everyone,

Critique is on Friday. Not a normal critique in that you need to dress up. Have your logos printed on 8.5x11 / color / centered (5 inches in the widest dimension).

Packet your companies (staple the following 1 starts the bottom)

Final on top of the set but not stapled to the set.

NEXT COMPANY: Don't forget to double space in between logos. Also have this in the logo folder on the left hand side on top. Please have all the sides secured with big butterfly clips only at the top of the folder.

Also if anyone is interested that has not had a chance to have me look over their last set of roughs I will be at the art dinner on Thursday night in Cobo at 5:30 and will be available to look over roughs after the dinner.

One last set of Roughs

One more set of roughs. Another 2 versions per logo. We will start to get the job folder ready to go on Wednesday so make sure that you don't fall behind. There will be 6 total roughs that will need to be in your job folder. Critique will be Friday. Don't forget AIGA tonight (Monday at 5:30pm in the DMS lab)!

Monday, Feb. 18

For Monday, please have two more roughs of each of your logos worked out in color / altered and printed out for class. 20 roughs printed for Monday. Have you job folders with you. They will be checked. Don't forget that if you want to go to DISH conference the 22nd that the deadline is today, Friday. Also we will have an AIGA meeting at 5:30 in the DMS lab on Monday. We are switching to 5:30 so that DMS seminar can come as well. See you then!

Plague Day

Your professor is still out for the count with this plague. No class today. Please have your 450 thumbs ready to show in class. They will be counted so please number them. Please select your top two logos and start to convert them to a vector format. You will have two roughs due per logo / logotype on Friday. Total of 20. Must be printed...get paper from university services if not there. Use today as a work day. Have everything ready to go for Friday. We will hit the ground running.

Thumbnails

For Wednesday please have 45 thumbnails per logo. This is five logo sheets with nine boxes a sheet. Have all logo thumbs ready to go on Wednesday. Enjoy your plague days off. Be careful and don't get sick. See you then!

Gutenberg and beyond

Hi everyone,

For those of you not in class today. Please watch this documentary...there are four parts...follow the links to see the rest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUXIStZ3vSo Also don't forget to get some notes from other people in class. This documentary on Gutenberg and info will be essential for your first essay test.

No homework over the weekend. We will be meeting at the Ryan Center (third floor of Jennings) at 2 pm on Monday. We will be viewing 16th century and 17th century texts that used a version of Gutenberg's press to print on. See you then!

10 Business Research

Hi guys,

Please have 10 Businesses selected. Again no photography, churches or eye doctors.

In your job folder for each businesses / You can also have a job folder for the 5 businesses that will be logos and another folder for the 5 businesses that will be logotypes...this will help cut down on the size of one job folder. In the job folder you need for each business...
1. Copy of old logo
2. Research 3 to 5 pages
3. Write 30 descriptive words of the business on a sheet of paper

Friday, Feb. 8th

Start collecting local businesses to do logos. You will need 10 different businesses. These need to be not the same business. You will be making 5 logotype designs and 5 logo designs. Start thinking about what companies you think you would be able to talk to about their designs and possibly move this out into the real world. Don't do chains or places that have too large of a national presence that it would not be feasible for you to be able to get a foot in the door with your look. No churches, photography or eye doctors logos are allowed. Too hard to think outside of the box for a rebrand. Look elsewhere. Have fun with this and take a brain break until Friday. See you then!

Take 10 logos from your pictures today. Pull the photos into illustrator and recreate. Use only a portion of the regular logo in the crest. Think symmetry when you can. Make the eye think that they belong together. Courtney - please take a trek around your room and find 10 logos to recreate. Print the final logo on 8.5x11 / portrait. Make the logo 5 inches by 5 inches and center. At 6.75 pull a guide across the width of the page and one inch down from the 5x5 box pull a guide. Start your text box at the corner. The text should be the logos used numbered in GillsSans 11 pt font and 12 point leading. Here are a few examples that were shown in class. Due Wednesday. NO AIGA MEETING TONIGHT!! WILL MEET NEXT WEEK MONDAY, FEB. 11TH AT 5 PM.

Rebus

Hi guys,

Please have your rebus printed and ready for class on Monday. Needs to be black and white on a 11x17. Please give yourself some decent margins on the page. Typeface needs to be garamond but you can play with the leading and the point size for these. Make sure that it can be read and that you have 10 rebus sequences on the page. Make an effort to make the icons look like they belong together and are made by the same person. Have a great weekend and see you Monday!
